The establishment of ghettos marked the end of freedom of movement for Jews. Write about what freedom means to you in your life and what you think it would mean to lose it. (Echoes and Reflections)
Freedom. We all have and love it. Freedom to me means getting to do things that are normal to me such as going to the mall whenever I want and not being restricted to my house like the Jews were restricted to their homes. To lose freedom to me is like loosing my phone like I can’t live without it. I conclude that nobody can live without freedom, we all need and want it. But what happens when its taken away from you? Like in the movie The Pianist, the Jewish people had their freedom taken away from them due to one man-Adolf Hitler-and his gang of Nazis. In the movie The Pianist the Jewish people were moved into ghettos and for some forced away from each other by Nazi law. A ghetto is a place where large amounts of Jews were put in, and forced to stay there and fend for themselves. In the ghettos the Nazis would come through and take a various amounts of Jews and put them on trains to go to different camps. Only healthy Jews were kept in the ghetto to keep working. Another example of their freedom being taken away is when they were put into the ghettos they were confined and restricted to live behind walls, fences, or barbed wire. I conclude that the Nazis were cruel and evil to the Jewish people by taking them away from their families and lost their freedom.
What do you think America would be like without freedom as our main identifier? What if there was no such thing as freedom in America at all-if America ran as a totalitarian country? You talk about freedom during the Holocaust, and I agree with you there. But, what if you lost one of the major components that makes you...you? Think about the first amendment, and also your daily life...
