The establishment of ghettos marked the end of freedom of movement for Jews. Write about what freedom means to you in your life and what you think it would mean to lose it. (Echoes and Reflections)
What Freedom means to me is being able to wear what I want, go where I want, eat what I want, have what I want, and say what I want. Not just having anyone in charge of me. I have freedom boundaries. I still have rules to follow from my parents. But when someone tries and tells me to do something that has no right to boss me around that is not freedom. The Jews were just as equal to everyone else but when Hitler came to power, the Nazi Government started making rules that Jews couldn’t play sports, or go to school, own a pet, etc. When the Jews had to go to the ghettos, it took much more freedom away. The Jews couldn't socialize with non-Jews or anyone outside their ghetto. Some were kept in in a closed ghetto until they were sent to a camp. The Nazis also made the Jews suffer without enough water, heat in their housing, food, or personal space. That’s taking away people’s rights and freedoms that they deserve. It takes away people’s self-esteem also. I’m thankful we have our rights and there aren’t people that are being told anymore like there was before, but if I’d got my freedom taken away, honestly I don’t know what I would do. Could our generation even imagine losing our freedom we have right now? I don’t think we could. Everyone wants to be equal, we all want to do what we want. There would be more fights/wars going on if people didn’t have their freedom. It’s kind of hard to think what it means if I lost my freedom because I don’t think it would happen.
I find it interesting that you say ¨Could our generation even imagine losing our freedom we have right now?¨ I don´t think so, considering that we have been raised in such a free community. Also I agree with you, I think that we do need some rules.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I tried to think how our generation could handle not having the freedom. We learn about how people didn't have freedom in the past. We understand how it was like for those people but still we won't be ready for that.
